Good Better Best is a kids’ outdoor gear review and destination guide site built around one idea: you should be able to trust what you buy. We test gear with our own kids — currently a two-year-old and a five-year-old who have strong opinions about everything — and we only recommend things that actually hold up.

Find gear by what you’re doing
Every guide is organized by activity and gear category, not by season or trend. If you’re looking for the best kids’ hiking shoes, the best kids’ sun shirts for a beach trip, or the best child carrier for a toddler who’s done walking — start with our Gear Guides. Each one gives you a Good, Better, and Best pick at different price points, so you’re not stuck choosing between a roundup of forty options with no clear answer.

Find gear for your kid’s age
Gear that works for a five-year-old is not gear that works for a toddler. We tag everything by age bracket so you can filter for what’s actually relevant. If your kid is under two, look for our infant and toddler tags. If they’re in the “I want to do it myself but also carry nothing” phase, that’s the 3–5 bracket.
