Every family needs a jacket that lives in the bottom of the backpack. This is ours. The Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket weighs next to nothing, rolls into a ball, and comes out when the sky turns grey. We tested it on Oren (2) on a cold, wet walk along the water, and the highlighter hood made him impossible to lose. The one thing to know before you order: it’s a simple shell with a simple hood, built for grab-and-go, not all-day downpours.

Best grab-and-go toddler rain jacket
Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket
So light it rolls into a ball and lives in the backpack. Highlighter zipper pull, full elastic cuffs, and lined pockets that don't leak through to the inside. The hood has no adjustment.
Sizes: 2T to 4T | Waterproof: Yes (waterproof/breathable, StormRepel DWR; seam sealing not listed) | Windproof: Not listed | Weight: Not listed | Fabric: 100% polyester, soft jersey knit lining
Good for: Stashing in the backpack, stroller, or car for surprise showers, and parents who want a light, easy-to-spot jacket that rolls into a ball.
Skip if: You need an adjustable hood or confirmed sealed seams for long days in heavy rain.
Is the Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket waterproof?
Eddie Bauer describes it as waterproof/breathable with a StormRepel DWR finish that sheds moisture. The product page doesn’t mention sealed or taped seams, so we can’t confirm how the seams are handled. For quick outings and surprise showers, that’s plenty. For hours in a downpour, the REI Rainier or Reima Lampi are the safer picks.

Where we tested the Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket
We tested it on Oren (2) on a grey, damp late-winter walk on a paved path along the water, with old snow on the edges and wet pavement underfoot.
Mostly, though, this jacket lived in our backpack. That’s its real job: the one you don’t have to plan for.

Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket features: what actually stood out
Here’s a surprise: how little it weighs. It’s just two layers, the outer shell and a soft lining inside. That’s it. It rolls into a ball and disappears into a backpack.
The zipper has a big, highlighter-yellow pull that small fingers can actually grab, and the bright yellow top makes him easy to spot. (Eddie Bauer also sells it in grey now, if neon isn’t your thing.) Elastic runs all the way around each cuff.
The pockets are open and lined, and unlike the Columbia Hikebound II, they’re closed off from the inside of the jacket. Dirt, rocks, or a forgotten piece of chocolate stay in the pocket. And it’s just a fun design. Also worth saying: we’ve always loved Eddie Bauer’s customer service.

What doesn’t work on the Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket
The hood is about as basic as hoods get. No elastic, no Velcro tab, no way to adjust it, so there’s nothing to snug down when the wind picks up. Eddie Bauer doesn’t mention sealed seams either, so we wouldn’t count on it for a long day in steady rain. It’s a stasher, not a storm jacket.
How to care for the Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket
Eddie Bauer says to secure all closures, then machine wash cold, separately, on a gentle cycle. No bleach. Tumble dry low and take it out promptly. Don’t iron or dry clean it.
Does the Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket pack down?
Yes, and that’s the whole point. It’s light enough that we forget it’s in the backpack until we need it, and it rolls up into a ball. There’s no stuff sack and Eddie Bauer doesn’t list a packed size, but it takes up very little room.
Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket sizing guide
We ordered a 2T for Oren at age 2, and it fit him well. Eddie Bauer makes it in 2T, 3T, and 4T. If you want it to last more than one season, size up.

Who is the Eddie Bauer Toddler Rain Jacket best for?
Families who want a just-in-case jacket. Keep it in the backpack, the stroller basket, or the car, and it’s there when the forecast is wrong. It’s light, bright, and simple. If you need serious all-day rain protection, start with the REI Rainier or Reima Lampi and keep this one as the backup.
Pro tip: Leave it rolled up in the bottom of your backpack all season. The day the forecast lies, you’ll be glad it’s there.
